Movember

Its November people and this makes me smile a lot. I'll tell you for why...
When I do my big weekend walks, I enjoy it so much more at this time of year, the trees are changing, the air is crisp and the world seems to slow a little. Dogs wear jackets, mittens and scarves are wrapped on but best of all men grow facial hair!!! Its Movember -oh yes!
Women's cancer research fundraising has been big and very successful for a number of years now but thanks to some clever thinking bods in Oz, Movember was created and changed the way we looked at fundraising and raising awareness of health matters for good.

Big steps have been taken towards changing attitudes and habits relating to men’s health around the world. Using the tasche, Movember aims to create an everlasting impact on the face of men’s health by sparking conversation and spreading awareness every year. Movember has grown to become a truly global movement inspiring more than 1.1 Million Mo Bros and Mo Sistas (That's what they call the hairy fundraisers!) to participate with formal campaigns in Australia, New Zealand, US, Canada, UK, Finland, Netherlands, Spain, South Africa and Ireland. In addition, Movember is aware of Mo Bros and Mo Sistas supporting the campaign in Russia to Dubai, Hong Kong to Antarctica, Rio de Janeiro to Mumbai, and everywhere in between -Impressive huh?
In 2010, over 64,500 US Mo Bros and Mo Sistas got on board, raising $7.5 million USD.

Campaign strategic goal
We will get men to grow moustaches by creating an innovative, fun and engaging annual Movember campaign that raises funds and awareness globally.
Strategic goals from the funds raised:
Survivorship
We will fund survivorship initiatives that provide information and support for men and their families affected by prostate and other male cancers that helps them make informed decisions and improves their quality of life.
Awareness and education
Through our annual campaign and funded programs we will significantly increase the understanding of the health risk that men face and encourage men to act on that knowledge.
Prostate cancer research
We will fund catalytic research and clinical trials infrastructure that leads to significantly improved diagnostic and prognostic tests and treatments to reduce the burden of prostate cancer.
Influencing change in men's health
We will fund research that helps to inform health policy and knowledge translation that accelerates improved health outcomes for men.
