Stunning Threads

The thread family was conceived by Coodination. They are a multi-awarded bureau for design and architecture, located in Berlin, Germany.
They are specialised "In creating high impact environments in the areas of interior, corporate interior, product and exhibition design. Driven by the quest for fresh ideas and extraordinary solutions, COORDINATION is a concept laboratory of creative energy combined with profound experience in professional realization."

They have a beautifully Germanic way of designing, with careful consideration for function over form, although they display their flair in both beautifully. They are "passionate about designing, reliable in planning and work  strategically."

“Thread Family” is a set of small hight adaptable furnishings featuring a thread and seat lathed from walnut wood on a welded steel base that comes in many colours. The family consists of three members: Small Stool, Bistro Table & High Stool. Conceived as objects of high flexibility, the “Thread Family” works in small spaces and in large places. They rise and adapt to the needs of the user and can become a lifelong companion to a kid or an adult.

"By combining traditional craft and contemporary design “Thread Trestles” turned out a zeitgeisty piece of product design without superfluous detail.

The whole Thread Family has now been honored three times, once as a “Winner” at the Interior Innovation Award ’14, once as a “Winner” at the iF product design award ’14 and a “Special Mention” at the German Design Award ’14."

They also designed and created a minimalist elevated working desk for reading, writing notes or working on a laptop. Making this a highly flexible, innovative piece of furniture as well as a thoroughly well thought through and well crafted piece of design. It changes between sitting and standing during work flow. Due to its modest dimensions Higher Desk offers a good solution to make use of this option even in confined environments. With the optional short leg it is designed to extend any existing desk or table.

The materials used are cork, lathed oak and laquered steel. All were chosen for their functional quality and have been sparsely treated to create an object that feels refreshingly contemporary.
