I have been friends with the folks at The Create Place for some time now and they're up to so much exciting stuff I figured that I was being outrageous by not telling you about it!
They've brought together local artists, craft enthusiasts, designers and makers to share ideas, learn, teach and be inspired to create. They offer a combination of workshops, open studio time and informal clubs and drop in sessions as well as being on hand to offer advice. They now also offer a monthly membership so regular users can benefit from discounts to our workshops and facilities.
As they expand they've formed a mini but ever growing community and now have a collective where all the creatives work and share ideas together. The collective's work is now on sale at The Create Place. And regular Pop-Up shops have begun where the whole workshop is transformed into a themed shop!
The Create Place is a self sustaining non profit venture that runs independently of any government support or other regular source of funding. We have worked hard to develop a diverse programme of activities for our workshop, aiming to be inclusive of all ages, income and abilities.
The day to day running of The Create Place is carried out predominantly by volunteers managed as part of the St Margaret's House volunteering programme. The Create Place has a strong environmental ethic at The Create Place and source as much of our materials second hand as possible. During our workshops we place an emphasis on recycling and upcycling old and unwanted items into new items. They work closely with Ayoka Charity Boutique -See Ready, Set Go Here! article about Saint Margarets House to find out more) to recycle unsellable items.
