In March Sadler’s Wells invited the legends that are Pet Shop Boys (Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe) to collaborate with the radical choreographer Javier De Frutos on their first foray into composing for dance and create a brand new full-length dance work based on Hans Christian Andersen’s story; An adaptation of the dark 1870 fairy-tale, where a King offers half his kingdom and his daughter's hand to the person who can create the most incredible thing, evil plotting and death ensues... 'The Most Incredible Thing' has been directed by Matthew Dunster. Both the choreography has been given rave reviews and the music been hailed as some of The Pet Shop Boys greatest work in years. You can purchase their score for the ballet/ contemporary dance show on their website as well as merchandise.

A live 26-piece orchestrator plays over layers of synths, trance and dance music, something not necessarily new to SW But apparently this show is quite eccentric, not surprising really given the collaboration and The Pet Shop Boys openly wished to to turn ballet on its head by making their on stamp on things. Other amazing contributors to the piece are:  Sven Helbig, Tony Award-winning designer Katrina Lindsay and BAFTA-winning film animator, Tal Rosner. Not to mention the talented cast of 16 performers. The Most Incredible Thing is set to be a highlight of 2011’s cultural calendar. Something not to be missed.... ut if you have, you tube it now!!
